Medical student commits suicide in Patna; Nitish Kumar orders probe

A first-year student of Patna Medical College and Hospital allegedly committed suicide prompting chief minister Nitish Kumar to order a probe.

Asked whether the medico committed suicide because of ragging, Maharaj said the case would be investigated from all angles.

"We have not recovered any suicide note from the place. Even his father has not said anything about it," he said.

After learning about the incident, chief minister Kumar asked the senior superintendent of police BS Meena and district magistrate JK Sinha to jointly probe the case, especially the allegations of ragging, and submit a report immediately, officials said.

Meanwhile, Ashwini Kumar, an MBA student, also allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house under S K Puri police station area here this morning, official sources said.

The reason behind the student taking the extreme step was yet to be known, they said, adding an investigation was on.
