NAGPUR: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum here has directed the regional office of National Insurance Company and a settlement agent of the insurance firm Heritage Health Services, Mumbai to compensate a city doctor who was robbed of his cameras in New York, USA.

Dr Uday Bodhankar, a neonatologist and a child counsellor, in his petition had stated that he had gone to USA last May to meet his son.

While flying from New York to Orlando by American Airlines, his baggage was checked at LG airport at New York. It was after reaching Orlando he realised his three cameras worth Rs 50,000 were missing of which he had taken a policy from the insurance company against theft and damage.

Bodhankar, who is also son-in-law of veteran Congress leader and former I&B Minister Vasant Sathe, thereafter lodged a complaint with the American Airlines and airport police.

He also filed a claim at the insurance firm which did not settle it, prompting him to approach the consumer forum.

The Forum, in its recent order, directed the National Insurance Regional Office and Heritage Health Services to pay Rs 50,000 on account of theft, Rs 20,000 towards compensation on account of mental agony and physical harassment and Rs
5,000 towards cost of complaint.
