As the results of the Delhi University Student’s Union (DUSU) Elections were declared this evening, Tushar Dedha from the ABBP won the president's post. Abhi Dahiya from the NSUI won the vice president post. Aprajita from ABVP won the secretary post and Sachin Basla won the Joint Sectray post.
The BJP-backed ABVP won three seats (president, secretary, joint secretary). NSUI won the vice president post in the DUSU elections 2023.
Who is Tushar Dedha?
Tushar Dedha completed his graduation from Satyawati College. He is pursuing a Master's in Buddhist studies. He joined the ABVP in 2015.
He won the election for college cultural coordinator at Satyawati College in 2016. He was also an executive council member at DUSU.
Ahead of the election, he said: “Back in the day students were allowed to apply for DTC bus passes. Now, it’s time for students to have a Metro pass since most of us travel long distances to get to college. I, myself, used to travel from Ghonda, Maujpur to Ashok Vihar by the Delhi Metro during my graduation days. The ability to travel across the city with a concession in amount is a right of every student, and that is the change I want to bring.”
As per his Facebook profile, Dedha went to Kendriya Vidyalaya - Andrews Ganj in New Delhi.
DUSU election 2023
The DUSU election was conducted on September 22 after a gap of three years. the election were last held in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, elections could not be place in 2020 or 2021, in 2022 there was a possibility of academic disruptions. Twenty-four candidates are in the fray for the four posts in the elections.
Prominent student' groups contested the DUSU polls were RSS' students wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI), CPI (M)-backed Students' Federation of India (SFI) and CPI (ML) Liberation-affiliated All India Students' Association (AISA).
