The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam is one of the toughest ones to crack in India with lakhs of candidates trying their hands at becoming an IAS officer every year. However, only a select few are able to realise their dreams. Today, we will tell you the success story of IAS officer Artika Shukla, who quit her medical studies to appear for the UPSC exam and secured AIR 4 in 2015.
Artika Shukla belongs to Varanasi and holds an MBBS degree from the Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi. After her graduation, she went to PGIMIR, Chandigarh to pursue an MD. However, it was then that her brother suggested she prepare for the UPSC exam.
She then left her MD studies and started preparing for the UPSC and secured All India Rank (AIR) 4 in her first attempt in 2015 that too without coaching. According to Artika, she was inspired by her brother Utkarsha Shukla, who had also cracked the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2012.
Artika Shukla was among the toppers along with IAS officer Tina Dabi also topped the UPSC exam with AIR 1, followed by Athar Amir Khan with AIR 2 and Jasmeet Singh with AIR 3.
Artika Shukla then went to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie and became IAS officers in 2016. It was in LBSNAA that she met Jasmeet Singh who she married in 2017.
IAS Jasmeet Singh got the Rajasthan cadre while Artika Shukla was given the Indian Administrative Service Union Territory cadre. However, IAS officer Artika Shukla also joined the Rajasthan cadre citing her marriage to Jasmeet Singh.
