Major Dr Payal Chhabra, a surgeon serving at the Army hospital in Ladakh, has become the first woman surgeon to join the elite Para Special Forces.

At a ceremony held at the Paratroopers Training School in Agra, she received the Maroon Beret. Her family is really proud of her accomplishment and has been sending her well wishes for more perseverance and hard work.

Major Dr. Payal Chhabra hails from Haryana and holds an MBBS degree and MS surgery degree. In 2020, she graduated from college and started working as a senior resident physician in the surgery division of the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College in Karnal, Haryana.

In an interview with The Times of India, her father, Dr. Rajender Chabra, said that Dr. Payal Chhabra always nurtured the dream of serving the nation. In January 2021, she received her appointment as a Captain in the Indian Army and later got promoted to the rank of Major.

To become a Para Commando, Dr Chhabra underwent training at the Paratroopers Training School in Agra.
