Militant killed in bomb explosion in Manipur

Police sources said the militant tried to plant the bomb under a bridge on Kangpokpi river, about 35 km north of here on NH 39, in the wee hours.

A militant was killed when  the bomb he was trying to plant under a bridge on NH 39 went off in Senapati district of Manipur today.

Police sources said the militant, identified as Dony (26) from Chandel district, tried to plant the bomb under a bridge on Kangpokpi river, about 35 km north of here on NH 39, in the wee hours.
   
But the bomb suddenly exploded tearing him into pieces, sources said adding that parts of the bridge also got damaged. The voter id card referred to his name as Dony.

Dony hailed from Naga-dominated Chandel district bordering Myanmar, sources said.
   
A Naga students organisation had already launched an indefinite economic blockade on the highway.
