Militants have issued a three-day ultimatum to schools and colleges in the Valley to implement a strict Islamic dress code for girls, or face the consequences.
To establish the gravity of their threat, they abducted Mohammad Ashraf, principal of Government Degree College, Sopore, his son and a friend from Mazarigund village in Dangiwacha area of Baramulla district on Monday morning.
They were released after some time but not before a threat of serious consequences if the dress code was not implemented in all girls’ schools and colleges within three days.
Police have registered a case under sections 364, 453 and 427 of the Ranbir Penal Code and a massive hunt has been launched for the kidnappers.
“We have recorded the statement of Ashraf in which he said he was asked to implement the pardah (veil) system in his college,” Aftab Ahmad, station house officer of Dangiwacha Police Station, said.
