Although no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the killing, Hizbul Mujahideen has reportedly warned three other youths of a similar fate if they do not leave the town.

Militants shot dead a youth in Sopore town of North Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said today.

Mohammad Saleem Dar (27), a mechanic by profession, was shot by unidentified militants while he was returning to his Chanikhan residence in the town, 55 kms from here, last evening, a police spokesman said.

Dar was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to
his injuries.

This was the second attack by militants on Dar in the past two years. He escaped with bullet injuries in another murderous attempt in 2008.

Although no militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the killing of Dar, Hizbul Mujahideen has reportedly warned three other youths of a similar fate if they do not leave the town, accusing them of being informers of security forces.

The warning was issued through a poster which was pasted on the main gate of a mosque at Batpora village of the town, sources said.

Sopore town has witnessed a spurt in militant activities in the past four months, the last attack being a ambush on a police party in the crowded bus stand last Tuesday which left a policeman and a civilian dead and four others including a cop injured.
