The authorities of IIT- Kanpur will take strict disciplinary action against a student who has returned after disappearing from the campus two months ago.
Arko Ray, a fourth year BTech Computer Engineering student who was missing from the campus for past two months did not take any official permission nor informed the adminstration before leaving the campus.
A missing report was filed on Oct 18 at Kalyanpur police station, IIT -Kanpur Registrar Sanjeev Kalsekar told PTI.
Ray who hails from Durgapur had gone to Delhi for his VISA related work, where he befriended a British girl and since then he did not return to the institute nor informed his parents, Kalsekar said.
The couple travelled all over India, he added.
Since the case also involved a British national , IIT-Kanpur sought help from the home ministry and the ministry of foreign aAffairs to find them, Kalsekar said.
Through his mobile surveillance and ATM records police traced Ray near New Delhi Railway Station was planning to nab him, he said.
Ray, however, returned to the institute yesterday.
The disciplinary committee of IIT -Kanpur will decide on the action to be taken against Ray, Kalsekar said adding that police would soon interrogate the student.
