Singh says the NDA has managed lesser growth rate despite a favourable international climate and low oil prices

Brought to counter Modi blitz in Karnataka, former PM Dr Manmohan Singh attacked the BJP government over his “disastrous policies” and “economic mismanagement” and in an apparent dig at PM Modi said, “no one person can be the repository of all wisdom”.

In a sharp and cogent attack, Singh targeted Modi government virtually on every economic aspect —  farmers’ distress, joblessness, growing NPAs and banking frauds, woes of MSME sector due to demonetisation and faulty implementation of GST. “The unfortunate truth is that each of these crisis was entirely avoidable,” said Singh.

Comparing the average growth rate of 7.8% during UPA government despite turbulent global conditions, Singh said the NDA has managed lesser growth rate despite a favourable international climate and low oil prices.  “In fact, growth rate under the NDA is lower in spite of the change in methodology, which paints a rosier picture than reality,” Singh said.

In a scathing rebuke, Singh said, “What took years of hard work to make the Indian economy the third largest in the world is being dismantled through systematic efforts that have no grounding in logic. In only four years, PM Modi has reversed the successes of the UPA government, in process hurting our farmers.”

A little ruffled by the vicious attacks launched by PM Modi in his election rallies, the Congress has sought to counter it by bringing its big guns in aid of its chief ministerial candidate Siddaramaiah that also includes Sonia Gandhi who will take on PM Modi in Bijapur on Tuesday.

The former PM said whenever answers are sought for the disastrous policies of the BJP government, all we hear is that ‘the intentions’ are virtuous but they have actually resulted in massive losses for our country.
