Modi slams Congress for defending Vadra

Modi said that the Union government lacked such sensitivity while dealing with terrorist activities.

First time since activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal alleged that Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi had nexus with realty firm DLF, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a dig at the UPA-II government for rushing in to Vadra’s defence.

Modi said that the Union government lacked such sensitivity while dealing with terrorist activities. He said, “There were some allegations against the son-in-law of a family and the entire Manmohan Singh government is fielded (to defend him).

"After the allegation, the entire Delhi sultanate was caught in such a fear that they felt this was a big storm...A big scandal and they should do something to save him, and the entire Manmohan Singh government came out in his defence," Modi said in an apparent reference to Vadra while addressing a rally in Dwarka.

"When many people are killed in terror attack, entire Union government never comes out to raise its voice...One of their spokespersons speak and matter ends there," Modi said.

"This is for the first time that the entire government, all its ministers are deputed to defend the 'jamai raja' (son-in-law)," he alleged.

The Modi government itself has come under criticism for allegedly awarding more than one lakh square meter of land at much cheaper rate to the DLF, resulting in a loss of Rs253 crore to the exchequer.

Commenting on the decision to carve out seven new districts and 20 talukas, Modi said that he wants to develop these districts and talukas so that they can stand in competition with any other district. “The whole Gujarat is feeling the development but Congress is only creating hurdles in development,” he said.

He also said that with Saurashtra Irrigation Yojna, there will be marked change in agriculture and animal husbandry in all seven district of Saurashtra and all 115 dams will overflow with Narmada water. He also said that he will take Narmada water to Dwarka and Okha. He also made a mention of tourist place development project worth Rs55 crore.
