Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat silenced his critics on Sunday, saying: "Nationalism of RSS is not linked to any government or political party." The remarks came as a reacting to the ongoing controversy over his remarks on the Indian Army.
Speaking at a seven-day 'Sangh Samagam' in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi, he said: "Nationalists do not care about controversies and participate in meaningless discussions. They just carry on with their nation-building acts, without any expectations."
Even though the RSS had issued a clarification soon after the controversy erupted over Bhagwat's remark on the Indian Army, it was the first time the RSS Chief spoke out.
Bhagwat arrived at the 'City of Ghats' on Thursday and has been interacting with swayamseavks and activists of RSS offshoots. On Sunday, he addressed a joint session of the Sangh Samagam at the Sampoornand Sankrit University.
He mentioned that as an organisation, the RSS has been serving the nation selflessly, not expecting any appreciation in return. "Those in the RSS will never get anything part from criticism. You continue the good work; pay no attention to the critics," he said.
"We have to make India stand out as a strong nation, a nation to whom the world will turn to for guidance," he said.
