Angel investor Mahesh Murthy who was arrested in Mumbai in connection with a molestation case was released on a surety bond on Friday evening.

Angel investor Mahesh Murthy who was arrested in Mumbai in connection with a molestation case was released on a surety bond on Friday evening.

Murthy was arrested after he was booked on December 29, under IPC sections 354 (D) (stalking) and 509 (word or gesture intended to hurt the modesty of a woman) and relevant provisions of the IT Act, based on a 32 year-old Delhi-based entrepreneur's complaint.

"Murthy was arrested, and was released due to court's order after completing the procedure," said Paramjit Singh Dahiya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 9.

The investor also took to Twitter to announce his release. "To all: the hon'ble court granted me anticipatory bail, in this case, some time ago. I am told it was a procedural technical arrest and I have already been released on surety," Murthy tweeted.

Stating that this is the same issue on which he had filed a case and and where the High Court has already passed an interim order in his favour & against the complainant back in April 2017, he added, "This is an attempt to counter-sue. I will fight this too in court to defend my reputation."

A case was registered by the Khar police here as the complainant, a Delhi-based entrepreneur, mentioned that the accused was a resident of Mumbai.

The National Commission of Women (NCW) had written to the Maharashtra police about complaints it had received from several women against Murthy.

The NCW had made an intervention, according to which Khar police filed a case against Murthy, under section 354 (D), 509 of IPC and section 67 of the IT Act, the official said.

Murthy is co-founder of Seedfund and founder and chief executive officer of Pinstorm Technologies Private Limited, a pay-for-performance digital brand management firm.

Last year, a business author alleged she was sexually assaulted by Murthy, a claim rubbished by him.
