Attributing Morarji Desai to be a person of strong character who was dedicated towards betterment of society, veteran BJP leader LK Advani urged people to follow in Desai's footsteps in life and contribute towards nation's development.
"Morarji had great personality, embedded with strong character and high values besdies strong will-power," said Advani, who was in Valsad on Wednesday to attend the 116th birth anniversary of Desai. The former prime minister was a leapling born on a leap day in 1896. Morarji created history by becoming the first non-Congress prime minister of India.
A grand programme was organized by Samaj Kalyan Trust at Kusum Vidyalay in Valsad to remember the great leader. "Even today, one can learn a lot from life of Desai. Indians should take a leaf out of Morarji's simple, but high thinking life," exhorted BJP leader, who was a part of Desai's cabinet in Janata government. For his all-out efforts to foster peace between Pakistan and India, Desai was conferred with Nishaan-e-Pakistan, country's highest civilian award.
Madhukeshwar Desai, great grand-son of Morarji Desai claimed that his great grand-father always dreamt of making India as happiest country in world. For Desai, Morarji is like a inspiration to many, who want to do something for society.
"He (Morarji Desai) became famous in India by forming first coalition government of country. He never compromised with his values, which made him different from other leaders of his time. We should work hard to make his dream come true," Madhukeshwar said.
