Amid celebrations in the BJP camp for victories in by-polls, BJP candidate from Dabra seat in Madhya Pradesh by-election, Imarti Devi, lost to Congress candidate Suresh Raje.
Earlier in the day, trends were claiming Imarti Devi as victorious, to which she had said, "It is understandable in the initial trend that BJP is winning in Madhya Pradesh, people are responding to the abuses by Kamal Nath."
Imarti Devi had joined the BJP with Jyotiraditya Scindia and left the Congress. She was the Minister of Women and Child Development in the Kamal Nath government, and she has got the responsibility of this department in the Shivraj government as well. Addressing a public meeting in Dabra during the by-election campaign, Kamal Nath called Imarti Devi an 'item.' There were many controversies. Reacting to Kamal Nath's statement, Imarti Devi started crying bitterly in front of the media.
For the first time in Madhya Pradesh, by-elections were held in 28 assembly seats of the 230-member House. By-elections in these 25 seats were necessary as the sitting Congress MLAs resigned and joined the BJP. They contested by-elections as BJP candidates.
