The faculty members of premier B-school Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) are opposing the “disciplinary code” introduced against them by head of board of governors of the institiute, Mukesh Ambani, who is also the chairperson and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited.
Ambani is said have put in place a disciplinary code according to which “erring” faculty member will be punished, if found guilty.
The decision of Ambani to introduce a disciplinary code for teachers of the institute came in the wake of faculty members’ opposition to several recommendations made by three committees, appointed by the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry.
In fact, the faculty members recently submitted a memorandum at the board of governors meeting, attended by Ambani along with director of IIMB Professor Pankaj Chandra, and other members of the top decision making body of the institute.
In the memorandum, IIMB’s faculty members clearly stated that change of governance at IIMs, fixed teaching hours for faculty members, and barring the faculty members from taking part in decisions of the IIMs would be damaging for the autonomy of the top B-schools of the country.
