Mumbai blasts: Man picked up in Ahmedabad for questioning

An anonymous caller told the police control room that the activities of a person staying at Palm Hotel in Odhav were suspicious and that he may have links with terror groups.

One day after the police recovered 8 crude bombs from Dani Limda, the police detained another person on Monday. Crime branch officials suspect that the detained man may be linked to the recent Mumbai bomb blasts.

Acting on a tip-off received from an anonymous informer, the police picked up the man from a hotel in Odhav. The anonymous caller had told the control room that the activities of a person staying at Palm Hotel in Odhav were suspicious and that he may have links with terror groups.

Sources in the police said that someone had called the control room to say that a person named, Habib Kadriwala Rastogi, had booked a room in Palm hotel and was staying there with his family. The crime branch officials responded swiftly and raided the hotel from where Habib was picked up and detained for questioning.

The police refused to reveal where Habib had been kept for questioning but, later, they took him to a nearby police station for further investigation. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Habib lives in Juhu in Mumbai and visits

Ahmedabad quite often. He also told the police officials that he is into the business of designing clothes, and had booked a room in Palm Hotel one week back. He had been staying there with his wife and two children.

Sources also revealed that Habib had told the police that he was a dress designer and originally belonged to Lucknow.
