Mumbai: Mantralaya fire brought under control, none injured
The chemicals being used in the renovation and repairing work could have caused the fire, say fire officials.
A fire broke out on 4th floor of the Mantralaya building in South Mumbai on Saturday afternoon. The fire was brought under control within minutes.
No casualties have been reported in it, say fire officials.
According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire broke out on 4th floor of the 7th storeyed Mantralaya building at around 12.12pm and was brought under control at 12.14pm. The cooling operation was going on till 12.32pm.
"The security officials from Mantralaya alerted the fire brigade following seeing the smoke in the building," said a fire official from fire brigade control room.
Four fire engines, two jetty's and two light portable pumps were used to douse the fire.
"The electric wiring, switchboard and other scrap material gutted in the fire," said a senior fire official, present on the spot.
"We are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire but it seems, prima facie, that the chemicals being used in the renovation and repairing work could have caused the fire," added the fire official.
Last year in June, a major fire engulfed in Mantralaya building in which three floors and thousands of files were gutted and also claimed five lives.
