An aircraft with eight passengers skidded off at the Mumbai airport runway due to rain on Thursday. The Mumbai disaster administration reported that three persons had been hurt and were being treated in hospitals.

Six passengers and two crew members made up of a total of eight people were on board. The incident happened close to Runway 27, which was slick from the rain.

“VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL operating flight from Vizag to Mumbai was involved in runway excursion (veer off) while landing on runway 27 at Mumbai airport. There were 06 passengers and 02 crew member on board. Visibility was 700 metres with heavy rain”, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said in a statement. 

Images from the Mumbai airport depict a gloomy sky and the plane's debris on the opposite side of the runway. Initial images revealed that the wreckage was still burning. The blaze was put out by emergency services.

An infrastructure company called Dilip Buildcon owned the plane. The Mumbai airport is now closed for operations while being inspected.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade reported the incident at 5:45 p.m., according to early information provided by the Mumbai disaster department.

“As informed by MFB and Airport Duty Officer a small private Jet Plane VTDBL (6 passengers and 2 crew on board)skidded off the runway and crashed thereafter at Domestic Airport while landing”, the statement said.
