As heavy rainfall and thunderstorms lash the city, with the Andheri subway being shut, and waterlogging in Dadar East, Marine Drive, and Lower Parel areas, the Mumbai police issued an advisory on Sunday.
Moreover, Flight UK696 from Amritsar to Mumbai (ATQ-BOM) has been diverted to Ahmedabad (AMD) due to bad weather at Mumbai airport and is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad (AMD) at 12.15 hours.
The Mumbai Police took on X to share an advisory amid heavy downpour. The advisory has urged citizens to avoid visiting coastal areas and move out of the house only if necessary.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, for Sunday. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai also said that intense to very intense spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Thane, Mumbai, and Palghar during the next 3-4 hours.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai has also issued a yellow alert for heavy downpours in the city which will remain effective till July 24.
Meanwhile, several roads have been closed and traffic diverted due to heavy waterlogging.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in a post on X said: “The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in Konkan and some districts of the state including Mumbai today. In this background, SDRF, District Administration, Police, Municipalities, Municipalities, various local self-government bodies should be alert and help the citizens in all possible ways, Chief Minister said.@mieknathshinde. The administration should plan and manage accordingly by taking information from weather department, disaster management unit from time to time about the situation. The Chief Minister has instructed everyone to be vigilant and ensure that no kind of trouble is created for the citizens.”
