Six days after Juhapura-based social activist Nadeem Saiyed was stabbed to death in broad daylight in his own area, the killers are still at large. However, it was learnt that the accused have amassed a huge fortune through their illegal activities.
The city crime branch probing the murder has learned that the main accused, Kalu Gardan, is hiding somewhere near Udaipur in Rajasthan. Crime branch officials are searching for five main accused: Kalu Gardan, Mushir Mulla, Firdaus Mulla, Irfan Mogli, and Sultan.
Nadeem was murdered on November 5. It is believed that it happened at the behest of Mushir Mulla, who is now in Dubai. He, along with Sultan, orchestrated the murder, and took the help of Kalu Gardan. It is also believed that one police officer is involved in the murder, and that is why the probe is being delayed.
Mushir Mulla, who is believed to have fled to Dubai just a few days before Nadeem's murder, used to live in Dariapur before shifting to Juhapura some years back. Mushir is a cousin of Rashid Chhava, a member of Latif gang. It is also learnt that Mushir, Sultan and Gardan are distant relatives and also business partners.
A few years back, all the three used to capture calves and cows wandering on streets, and bring them to Juhapura to sell them at slaughter houses. They used to earn Rs20,000 per day by selling 3 to 4 cows every day.
Later, they started extorting money from land owners by sending their people to encroach land through building slums. In one such deal with a Mumbai-based party, they believed to have taken crores to vacate a piece of land near Vishalla hotel. They took the help of two local dons in their land extortion business.
After extorting money through such businesses, Mushir Mulla became a builder, while Sultan continued the extortion business with the help of Gardan. According to sources, they have an army of 80 to 100 men, who work for them and carry out their illegal businesses, including cow slaughter and bootlegging.
Mushir and Sultan created a fortune, and each of them owns 10 to 15 houses and many luxurious cars. Gardan started his career as a carrier of hooch for a Juhapura-based bootlegger. He shot to fame after murdering local don Bhuriyo a few years back. He has committed all sorts of crimes and more than 20 cases of loot, murder, attempt to murder and bootlegging are registered against him at Sarkhej and Vejalpur police stations.
