The city Congress has accused the BJP and chief minister Narendra Modi of violating the model code of conduct as the hoardings erected at the Vijay Crossroads have not been removed.

The hoardings show the CM and the city BJP chief Rakesh Shah conveying Micchami Dukadam messages to the people.

The city Congress president, Pankaj Shah, and the leader of opposition in the AMC, Surendra Baxi, made this allegation against the BJP at a meeting held at the collector's office.

The two Congress leaders not only accused Modi of violating the code of conduct but also accused the state election commission (SEC) of inaction in not directing the CM and the BJP to get the hoardings removed.

An official communiqué issued by Shah and Baxi says that the BJP leaders' hoardings and decorative items can still be seen on the roads near the University area and Vijay crossroads.

"Objectionable hoardings that can rouse religious sentiments can still be seen on the roads," the communiqué says. "We wonder why the state election commission has not taken action against such blatant violation of the code. Doesn't the EC want to conduct elections in an unbiased manner?"

At the meeting, the Congress leaders also raised questions about officials at the social welfare department and Other Backward Class offices refusing to provide caste certificates. "How will people register their candidature in the upcoming election?" the leaders asked.
