Narendra Modi to lead 25-member delegation to Japan

Gujarat chief minister will be accompanied by top officials, representatives of leading business houses for the July 22-26 visit.

A 25-member delegation, comprising senior government officials and top business honchos from the state, will accompany chief minister (CM) Narendra Modi on an official visit to Japan from July 22 to 26, official sources said.

Government officials said that Modi is the first chief minister to have been invited for an official tour by the Japanese government, as the honour is reserved only for presidents or prime ministers.
The delegation will visit Tokyo, Hamamatsu, Kobe, Osaka and Nagoya in Japan. The visit will be marked with 44 business meetings, seminars and a roundtable conference. The roundtable conference will focus on finding means to enhance economic, industrial and cultural exchanges between Japan and Gujarat.
The chief minister will hold discussions with Japanese ministers and officers about various key projects in the state.

The visit is also to promote Gujarat as an attractive investment destination for Japanese companies. The delegation will seek greater participation from Japan in the forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2013. Japan is one of the partner countries of the mega-event.

The CM will press for a bigger push to the multi-billion dollar Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project, which has been backed by the Japanese government.

Modi, along with the delegation will also take a ride on the bullet train, the fastest train in Japan, from Tokyo to Hamamatsu and subsequently from Hamamatsu to Nagoya. The delegation will also visit the port in Kobe city.

According to officials, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, Torrent Group chairman Sudhir Mehta, Reliance Industries’ vice-president Parimal Nathwani and Suzlon chairman Tulsi Tanti are part of the delegation to Japan. For Cadila CMD, Pankaj Patel, who is also part of the delegation, this will be the first such visit.
Secretary to the CM, AK Sharma, industries secretary Maheshwar Sahu and Gujarat’s principal resident commissioner, Bharat Lal are some of the officials that are a part of the visit; the others being DMIC CEO, Amitabh Kant, and chairman of CII Gujarat region, Piyush Shah.
