With the fourth round of polling over, the CPI(M) is making intense efforts to raise a non-BJP and non-Congress government at the Centre. To that end, party general secretary Prakash Karat called on BJD chief and Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik on Friday. The leaders reportedly discussed the possibility for 45 minutes.

Later, they made it clear to reporters that their parties would neither support the BJP nor the Congress.

Naveen said, “Karat is in agreement with us that his party will neither support the BJP nor the Congress. Attempts are being made to put in place an alternative at the Centre.”
About Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit’s statement that the Congress was in touch with the BJD, Patnaik said the party was desperate to get his support but “neither the Congress nor the BJP will get it”.

Karat said the Third Front would make a serious bid to form a government. “Let us wait for the result,” he said.
