The National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued a notice to TNCC president EVKS Elangovan for his alleged derogatory remarks regarding a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. "The notice sent to Elangovan is regarding the statement he made on the meeting between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Prime Minister," NCW Chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam said on Sunday.
She said he has been asked to reply within five days from receipt of the notice or "he will have to appear before the NCW."
Meanwhile, Elangovan, who is in Delhi, said that he has not received any notice from NCW. "I have not received any notice so far. I can only react after seeing the notice," the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president said.
Elangovan also refused to comment about AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa's appeal to party workers today to end their state-wide protests against Elangovan for his alleged derogatory remarks over her August 7 meeting with Modi at Chennai.
It may be recalled that soon after Elangovan's alleged remarks on Aug 14, AIADMK workers launched protests across Tamil Nadu, burning his effigies at many places, while others staged protests in front of his homes at Chennai and Tiruchirapalli and also at Congress party office at Chennai.
