In the past few days, three major exams in the country have either been cancelled or postponed. Recently, the CSIR-UGC NET exam was postponed. Meanwhile, Bihar Police's Economic Offences Unit, which is probing the alleged NEET-UG paper leak case, on Saturday claimed to have obtained reference question papers of the test conducted by NTA and planned to compare these with documents recovered from a flat in Patna during a search operation last month, reported PTI.
The report stated that the EOU is also exploring the "possibility of conducting narco analysis and brain mapping tests" of some arrested accused in the case.
As the probe intensifies, more details are emerging about the accused, particularly the mastermind Sanjeev Mukhia. He hails from Nalanda district in Bihar and is on the run. According to multiple reports, he started as a peon, and then rose to become the head of his village's council and turned to the paper leak business.
Meanwhile, his wife, Mamta Devi, was elected the ‘mukhiya’ of the Bhuthakhar Panchayat. She contested the 2020 Bihar elections from Harnaut seat, and emerged the first runner-up.
He and his son, Shiv Kumar, are accused of leaking the NEET exam paper. Shiv Kumar, a graduate from Patna Medical College, is already in jail for involvement in the BPSC paper leak case.
Sanjeev Mukhia's criminal activities have a long history, including involvement in the 2016 police recruitment exam leak and other exams like the Bihar Public Service Commission tests. Despite previous jail time, he often secured bail due to minor charges.
