The royal train of Rajasthan — Palace on Wheels ( PoW) — is all set to be rolled out in its new avatar in the current tourist season from September 6 .
The train will be moving on the rake of Royal Rajasthan on wheels (RRoW) starting this year. While the blue colour of RRoW has been retained, the coaches have undergone a complete renovation to attain a resemblance to PoW.
The coaches look better, spacious and more luxurious. In a first look at the train organised by Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) management on Saturday, it looked prepared to welcome tourists aboard.
Giving information on the train, PoW general manager Pradeep Bohra, informed that the royal train has the same tariff and itinerary, but with a more spacious accommodation. He also informed that it now has two specious resto-bars.
Bohra said the train management has got confirmed bookings of 1,032 passengers for this season. This makes up around 50 per cent of advance booking for the train this season .
The first trip which will depart from New Delhi on Wednesday, however, will have 35 tourists on-board. The train will reach Gandhinagar station on Thursday.
Notably, RRoW had been failing to attract the tourists till now while PoW had technical issues in its coaches. This led RTDC and the state department of tourism to convert RRoW into PoW.
The train is currently parked at Bais Godown Railway Station while PoW stands parallel to it. The rakes of this previous train had been rattling trouble. The RTDC management is planning to ply this old PoW rakes on a different route to desert areas which is already approved by the Railways authority.
