Dnyandeo Yashwantrao Patil was today sworn in as governor of Tripura at a simple ceremenony at the Dubar Hall of Raj Bhavan here.
 
Chief justice of Guwahati High Court, J Chelameswar administered the oath of office to the 74-year-old Patil, who took over from Dr Kamala, the first woman governor of the state and has been appointed governor of Gujarat.
 
Patil, a Padma Shri awardee, has founded several educational and health institutions in Maharashtra.
 
Chief minister Manik Sarkar, his cabinet colleagues, leaders of political parties and top bureaucrats and army and police officials were present at the oath-taking ceremony.
 
Patil later told reporters that development and expansion of education and curbing militancy would be his priority areas.
 
"I am also studying the socio-economic condition of the state and will do my best for its development."
