Two NGOs today demanded a probe by the Comptroller and Auditor General into the alleged diversion of SC/ST funds to Commonwealth Games-related projects by Delhi government.
Though chief minister Sheila Dikshit has denied any diversion of funds, Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN) and National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) claimed that Rs 744 crore were diverted from Special Component Plan (SCP) meant for the welfare of Dalits.
"Government has committed an economic offences by allowing the funds to be diverted," Miloon Kothari, executive director, HLRN, told reporters here.
This year the health budget as well as other social sector budgets for Delhi saw a huge slash. Finance minister for Delhi said there was no money left, said Shivani Chaudhry, associate director of the NGO.
The allegation is that Rs 744 crore was spent on development of bus terminals, projects of widening of roads and improvement of infrastructure and enhancing of water distribution system of Delhi Jal Board. All these projects are directly or indirectly linked to Commonwealth Games.
