In a heart-wrenching incident, an unidentified motorcycle rider kidnapped a nine-year-old daughter of a city-based businessman and raped her at knifepoint. The incident took place in Bibvewadi on Monday night. Although a police complaint has been lodged, no arrest has been made.
The Sahakarnagar police have filed a case under Indian Penal Code sections 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) after the girl’s father lodged a complaint.
According to the police, the girl had gone to a grocery shop near her residence to buy poha (beaten rice) on Monday night. While she was returning home, an unidentified person riding a motorcycle approached her.
Claiming to be new to the area, he asked for directions to an address where he claimed his sister and daughter were waiting. Believing the man, the girl boarded his motorcycle. He then whisked her away to a building under construction on Laketown Society Road.
Senior police inspector Kamlakar Takawale said, “Once at the building, the man stripped the girl. When she protested, he threatened to harm her with a knife that he carried on him. Later, he dropped the girl back near her house and took off. The girl then reached home.”
The police said that the victim is studying in standard IV. Takawale said, “Prima facie we believe that the suspect must be a resident of the nearby area.”
According to the description given by the victim to the police, the rapist was a fair, strongly built man with a straight nose. He wore white shirt and black trousers and spoke in Marathi.
