Amidst reports that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is sending emissaries to the opposition in a bid to rekindle the 'mahagathbandhan' and break ties with the BJP, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav said there was "no question" of tying up again with the Nitish-led Janata Dal (United). Yadav, son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad added that "the door is closed" for uncle Kumar to return to the grand alliance. The Congress, meanwhile, said that Kumar's readmission to the grand alliance could be considered if he chose to snap ties with the BJP.
Even as sources said that Kumar on Tuesday made phone calls to an ailing Lalu Prasad, currently recuperating at a Mumbai hospital, those close to Bihar chief minister told DNA not to read much into the telephonic conversation, aimed at only inquiring about the health of the ailing RJD president.
Political analysts, however, say the telephonic conversation assumes significance, as the JD (U) president was getting uneasy with the BJP and PM Modi. After a series of snubs from the BJP's top leadership in the last 11 months, Kumar is believed to be feeling quite uncomfortable with the BJP.
"After Kumar ditched us last year and rejoined the NDA, he tried to sell the idea to the people of Bihar that he had the welfare of the state in mind and that with the NDA in power, both at the Centre and in the state, Bihar would be equipped with a double engine that will speed development. Nothing of that sort has happened," said younger Yadav.
Yadav said Kumar was making up his mind for yet another turnaround, but there was little credibility left with him. "There is no guarantee that if we, speaking hypothetically, agree to yet another tie-up, he would not ditch us some time later. The door is now closed," he said.
'NO CREDIBILITY'
‘There’s no guarantee that if we, hypothetically, agree to another tie-up, he would not ditch us later. The door is now closed,” Tejashwi said.
