PATNA: With Bihar police in pursuit of controversial RJD MP Sadhu Yadav in connection with an assault case, party president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Saturday accused the state government of political vendetta.

"The Nitish Kumar government is working with vendetta against Sadhu Yadav and other RJD leaders.... The promptness with which Bihar police went to arrest the Gopalganj MP after the Lok Sabha row (on Thursday) proves the point," he said.

Prasad contended that the case against Yadav, his brother-in-law, was an election-related one and not very serious. "What prompted the police to act in a hurry against the RJD MP in a case to which they paid no attention earlier?"

Yadav is charged with assaulting a public servant and preventing him from discharging his duties and for voluntarily causing hurt, among others crimes.

He had hit the headlines two days ago after he and JD(U) leader Prabhunath Singh came to blows in Lok Sabha over the latter's controversial remarks.

A Gopalganj police team had gone to Yadav's residence in Delhi to arrest him earlier on Friday, but did not find him there.

The RJD chief also referred to the police action against RJD MP from Sitamarhi Sitaram Yadav, former RJD minister Rajballav Yadav and Independent MLA Kaushal Yadav to buttress his charge that the Nitish government of targetting opposition party leaders.

On his coming closer with LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan on the issue of the gangrape of Dalit women in Lakhisarai, Prasad said, "In future also we will work together in the interest of the poor and downtrodden."
