Congress tonight dismissed reports of formation of a three-member committee for Andhra Pradesh to find a successor to chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy who was killed in a helicopter crash.
"No such committee has been formed", said Rajya Sabha MP Janardan Dwivedi. Reports earlier had it that the party had formed a panel comprising senior leaders Pranab Mukherjee, Digvijay Singh and M Veerappa Moily to thrash out the issue.
Dwivedi also clarified that the visit of AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh to Hyderabad was a "personal" one and indicates no political significance. "Singh went to Hyderabad to offer condolences as he was not able to attend the funeral of Reddy".
The Congress leader insisted that the party neither held talks on the issue of a successor till the mourning period is over later this week.
