NEW DELHI: There would be no official delegation from India to attend former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto's funeral in her Sindh village as it would be a "personal affair", Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon said on Friday.

Menon told that there would be no official representation from India. But the Indian government would send a representative for a public memorial service later.

South Block remained in constant touch with the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, he said. The Pakistan government would inform them when the public memorial service would be held.

The body of the assassinated Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader was flown from Rawalpindi to Sukkur airport by a C-130 flight early on Friday. It was accompanied by her husband Asif Ali Zardari and children, Bakhtawar, Bilawal, Asifa as well as senior PPP members.

From the airport, the body of the slain leader was taken to Naudero in a helicopter. The last stretch from Naudero to her village Garhi Khuda Baksh took place in an ambulance, arriving before dawn.

According to reports, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif conferred with Zardari and may not attend the funeral.

Bhutto was assassinated Friday evening in a suicide bomb attack soon after she addressed a rally in Rawalpindi.
