Undeterred by the incidents that took place during his tour to Warangal today, Congress MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy today announced he will go forward with his yatra after the by-polls in Telangana region due shortly.
"There is no question of cancelling my tour under any circumstances. I shall undertake it after the by-election process is completed," Jagan said in a statement upon his return to Hyderabad after he was taken into preventive custody by police at Vangipalli in Nalgonda district.
He alleged that the TRS objected to his yatra only out of fear that it would dampen its prospects in the ensuing by-elections.
"I hope the TRS will not have any objection to my trip after the by-polls," he said.
Jagan was forced to abandon the yatra plan after violence broke out in Mahbubabad leaving 24 people, including eight policemen, injured.
The 'Odarpu Yatra' was intended to console over 70 families whose members allegedly died either of heartbreak or committed suicide following the death of his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash last September.
"I had planned my yatra soon after my father's funeral when I visited Pavuralagutta, the scene of the helicopter crash. It is purely personal and has nothing to do with politics or Congress party," Jagan reiterated.
He appealed to his followers to observe restraint and not resort to violent acts.
"I came to know that some protesters set bogies of Padmavathi Express on fire in Tirupati and that there were some other violent reactions at other places. I appeal to all such people not to indulge in violence," Jagan said.
