Denying giving any such signals, Haasan says that it was a statement made by Su Thirunavukkarasar and not mine

Days after rebel AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran offered to align with Congress on condition that they dump the DMK, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su Thirunavukkarasar on Monday said that his party has been receiving signals from various parties including actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on joining the alliance with it. Hours later, Haasan, however, denied giving any such signal for an alliance.

“At present, the political situation is in favour of the Congress party. I welcome the statements of Pattali Makkal Katchi, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and rebel AIADMK leaders expressing their wish to join the Congress-led alliance,” Thirunavukkarasar told reporters at the party headquarters Sathyamurthy Bhavan here.

Congress leader said that the DMK and Congress alliance is going strong. He said that Makkal Needhi Maiam founder and actor Kamal Haasan has been giving signals join an alliance with Congress through his statements after his meeting with Rahul Gandhi.

Denying giving any such signals, Haasan said that it was a statement made by Thirunavukkarasar and not mine. Haasan after meeting Rahul and his mother Sonia Gandhi in June this year said that it was too early to decide whether he would support the Congress-led alliance to defeat the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He had met CPI (M)’s Kerala Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, AAP leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, WB CM Mamta Banerjee and Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy but did not meet any BJP leaders yet.

As for as Dhinakaran’s demand to come out of DMK alliance, Thirunavukkarasar made it clear that his party was firm in its alliance with DMK. “It is the view of Dhinakaran. We are in alliance with DMK,” he said.
