Gujarat Technological University (GTU) is experimenting with e-assessment for evaluating answer-sheets of ongoing examination of Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Currently a pilot project, e-assessment involves examiners correcting the answer-sheets that have been scanned and uploaded on the computer. Their evaluation is computed digitally and after assessment is over, the result is automatically uploaded on GTU’s website.

The system promises to make evaluation swift, transparent and technologically up-to-date. Also, multiple examiners will be able to access the answer-sheets that have been uploaded over the web.

“An examiner will assess answer-sheets online. As they evaluate each question, marks of each of them will be added automatically to the grand total, thus reducing chances of errors,” said Dr Akshai Aggarwal, vice-chancellor of the varsity. “Once correction is over, the computer will automatically display marks attained by the student. Thus, results can be declared faster as teachers do not have to prepare separate marksheets,” said Aggarwal.

Employees of the tech-varsity have received special training to implement this novel system. If successful, the pilot project will be replicated in courses like engineering and pharmacy.
