Tech-savvy city residents can now report crimes, corruption and civic problems to relevant authorities with the press of a button on their smartphones.
Police have launched an android application that can send multiple messages informing nearest police stations or even four selected near ones about problems faced by the sender and his/her location.
The 'Citizen COP', an application developed by Infrocrats Web Solutions, was launched by state home minister Umashankar Gupta at a function here. This is the second launch of the application after Bhopal.
"The application empowers every common man to be a powerful citizen cop and join hands with police force to stop crime. It helps the users in reporting a crime by just capturing the image and directly sending it to the police force with your comments" said application developer, Rakesh Jain (Infocrats Web Solutions).
The application, that can be downloaded free of cost from Google Play, can automatically pop up on the user's mobile screen by only shaking the handset.
The application provides real-time help by clicking on 'Help Me' option. An SOS (Save our Souls) message and location information will be sent to four numbers enlisted by the user as people to be contacted in emergency.
The application has many features including 'Report Criminal Activity', get 'Police Phone Directory' with 'Contact Your Law Enforcement Officials', 'PUSH Notification' feature to get live traffic updates and any important news published by police for general public, 'GEO Fencing' to get an instant access to police station of the specific area along with the contact number of the BEAT in charge.
‘Citizen Cop’ comes with an exclusive feature that provides user the facility of live location tracking by just registering at www.gpsnow.in for free.
With 'Abide With Traffic Rules' feature Citizen Cop makes general public aware about the traffic rules and help them abide by all traffic guidelines. By a simple click on 'traffic fines' button, a user can get the complete list of traffic fines that are applicable on violation of traffic laws.
While inaugurating the application, Gupta said this is a revolutionary application that would bring the citizen close to the police department in terms of developing a relation of trust and assistance. The application ensures 100 per cent anonymity of the users.
