“It is for the president to decide in her wisdom what to do with the Afzal Guru case. As a chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, having seen the situation over the last three years, I do have certain apprehensions what could happen if Afzal Guru was to hang,” Omar said.

The chief minister said he has made his apprehensions known to the Centre. “As CM my responsibility is to ensure a peaceful state. It is the Centre’s responsibility to look at the wider picture. My pure interest is in the situation in J&K,” he said.

Omar’s cautious approach comes close on the heels of the separatists’ threat of a storm of protest if the parliament attack convict was executed.
