Omar Abdullah divests J&K education minister of portfolio

Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed had submitted his resignation to Sonia Gandhi after a probe found that his step-son had passed the matriculation examination in 2009 using unfair means.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday divested Education minister Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed of his portfolio in the wake of an examination scandal involving his step-son.

"The said portfolio will remain with the Chief Minister till further orders," an official spokesman said.

Earlier in the day, the minister had submitted his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi after a Crime Branch probe found that Sayeed's step-son had passed the matriculation examination in 2009 using unfair means.
