Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today announced an assistance of Rs two crore for the infrastructural development of Sainik School in the state.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today announced an assistance of Rs two crore for the infrastructural development of Sainik School in the state and called for holistic development of students.

Omar announced Rs two crore assistance to the school for infrastructural development and assured the management that his government would extend help for overall growth.

"The present day trends in education and technology call for holistic development of students so that they can compete at all levels and prove their mettle," the chief minister said while addressing the annual day function of Sainik School in Manasbal area.

Emphasising on the need to make educational institutes centres of personality development, Omar said along with academic excellence, extra-curricular activities should also be a part of the syllabus.

The chief minister said students would lead the country and they have to prepare themselves for this stupendous task to lead the nation to prosperity.

Union Minister Farooq Abdullah asked the management to prepare a proposal for the use of solar energy in the school.

J-K Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayed said the government plans to set up 60 residential schools in which students from weaker sections would be provided free boarding, lodging and education.

Sainik Schools are established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society, which come under the purview of respective state governments and Ministry of Defence.
