The incident in Barwala was result of an earlier argument between the families.

A feud between two families led to a massacre on Friday night. Bloodbath ensued at the Solanki residence in Ambedkarnagar area of Barwala village in Ahmedabad, as one Himmat Solanki was brutally murdered, while other members of his family are recuperating at a nearby hospital.

The attack was the result of a heated argument that had taken place between the Solanki family and the accused Chawda family some time back. At that time, the villagers had intervened and controlled the situation. However, on Friday night the Chawda family got back at Solanki family.

Five members of the Chawda family-Vinu Chawda, Vaju Chawda, Jetha Chawda, Rakesh Chawda and Anil Chawda-entered the Solanki residence at night with swords and daggers. A fight ensued in which the head of the house, Himmat Solanki was killed.  The other family members, including women, too were attacked. Neighbours rushed in after hearing shouts of help, but the accused fled the spot before they could be caught.

Himmat Solanki's sister Premila has registered a complaint with the police. The five accused have been charged with murder.

Police have also arranged for tight security at the spot to avoid any further altercations within the communities. One of the accused, Vinu Chawda is the son of former Congress social welfare minister Motilal Chawda.
