One person was killed and another injured after a passenger in the general coach of an
express train opened fire near Piplod railway station, railway police said today.
The incident took place late last night in Awadh Express between Dahod and Piplod railway station, they said. According to police, there was an altercation between some passengers in the general coach over a petty issue, following which one of them fired two rounds killing a man and injuring another.
"The passenger who fired the bullet from his pistol and his aide jumped off the train and escaped," police said adding "that the duo are yet to be identified."
The person who was killed has been identified as Narendra Thakur, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, while the injured is Monu Yadav also from the same state, they said.
A case has been registered with the Godhra railway police and further investigations are on, police added.
