Amid ongoing protests over the release of controversial movie Padmaavat, 15 people were arrested in National Capital Region (NCR) for vandalising DND toll plaza in Noida.
Protests were also organised in Gurgaon where the effigies of the film producer-director Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also burnt.
The police said that the arrested men were from various fringe groups like Bajrang Dal, Karni Sena, Kshatriya Sena, Hindu Vahini and many others were armed.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Jitender Singh Chauhan, who claimed to be the national executive member of the Karni Sena said, " We visited all the cinema halls on MG Road and Sohna Road. We handed them a memorandum asking them not to screen the movie Padmaavat."
“With DND flyway being toll free, the counters were non-operational. Only the windows and computers were broken,” Superintendent of Police (City) Arun Kumar Singh told The Hindu.
“I don’t endorse the vandalism that took place at DND flyway, but authorities need to understand why this happened," said Lokendra Singh Kalvi, founder-patron of Karni Sena.
A group on Sunday took out a "jauhar swabhimaan" rally in Chittorgarh against 'Padmaavat' film demanding a complete ban on it.
Several women and men, who were part of the rally, were holding swords and shouted slogans against "Padmaavat" film- maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
But, much to the relief of the filmmaker and the distributors, the Supreme Court, earlier this week, allowed a country-wide release of the controversial movie on January 25.
