CHENNAI: A 48-year old man who arrived here on a German passport was found to be a Pakistan national and was deported back to Frankfurt.
Syed Akthar had given contradictory statements while being questioned on his arrival here on a Lufthansa flight on Monday night and officials yesterday confirmed that he was originally from Pakistan, airport sources said on Wednesday.
Akhtar, a software engineer, had claimed that he had come to attend a conference.
After questioning him for several hours, immigration officials brought the matter to the notice of authorities in New Delhi who in turn gave instructions to send him back.
Akhtar was deported to Frankfurt late Tuesday night, the sources added.
