Passengers stranded at Orissa airport due to strike by Air India employees

Around 200 passengers of IC-169 Raipur-Mumbai flight via Bhubaneswar had to spend long hours at the airport as the aircraft was terminated when it failed to take off after its halt here.

A large number of passengers were stranded at Biju Patnaik Airport here today as some flights failed to take off due to a strike by a section of Air India employees, airport sources said.

Around 200 passengers of IC-169 Raipur-Mumbai flight via Bhubaneswar had to spend long hours at the airport as the
aircraft was terminated here when it failed to take off after
its halt here, they said.

Similarly, IC-878 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi flight was cancelled due to the strike, putting many passengers wanting to catch connecting international flights in considerable difficulties, the sources said.

While passengers complained of lack of cooperation from officials of the airlines and airport, the airport authorities declined to give any concrete information about arrangements for the passengers.

A section of Air India employees, including engineers, today went on a flash strike to protest delay in payment of salaries and problems relating to the working conditions of cabin crew.
