NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said India's peace process with Pakistan had slowed down as that country was preoccupied with internal problems like the ongoing crisis at Lal Masjid even as he reminded Islamabad that there won't be any redrawing of boundaries.
Peace process has slowed down as Pakistan is preoccupied with internal problems, Manmohan Singh told women journalists at his 7 Race Course residence when asked to comment on the volatile situation in Pakistan.
In the same breath, he added that the two countries have made some progress on contentious issues. "I have an invite from President Musharraf. I will take advantage of it at appropriate time," he added.
"I have told (Pakistan President Pervez) Musharraf saheb that I have no mandate to redraw boundaries. I told him we should make borders irrelevant through more people to people contacts and softening of borders," the prime minister said.
"We need to wipe out the culture of terrorism. Terrorism is a common enemy. The current tension in Pakistan are its internal problems," Manmohan Singh said.
"Pakistan is realising terrorism is dangerous to civil society," he said even as he wished Pakistan "godspeed" in dealing with the Lal Masjid crisis.
"Thinking section of Pakistani society does not approve of fundamentalism of a perverse type," he stressed.
