The Delhi high court (HC) has found a solution to the huge backlog of cases. Justice S Ravindra Bhat ordered on Thursday that “no adjournment slips would be issued in cases running for over five years (i.e. those filed in 2004 and before)”.
The judge said the over 1 lakh cases pending in HC, which has 40 judges, should be fast-tracked.
As per HC estimates, a case gets only 4 minutes and 55 seconds for hearing in a day.
Bhat was head of the HC committee that probed the time and money spent on each case. The committee found that in the present system, it would take over 466 years to dispose of all pending matters.
