A few days after senior Maruti Suzuki India officials met chief minister Narendra Modi and expressed intent to establish a car manufacturing plant in the state, a team from another automobile company is coming to meet the CM.

Officials said that a delegation of France-based PSA Peugeot Citroen is arriving in Gandhinagar for meeting Modi on Thursday. The meeting, in connection with the company's plans to set up a car manufacturing facility, is slated for the afternoon.

"PSA Peugeot Citroen is looking for a suitable location for setting up a car manufacturing plant. They will meet the CM tomorrow and discuss the possibility of setting up the plant in Gujarat," a senior government official said, requesting anonymity.

PSA Peugeot Citroen is the second largest automaker in Europe, and the sixth largest globally.

The company plans to invest around Rs4,000 crore for setting up a plant having a capacity to produce up to 3 lakh units a year. However, it has not yet finalised Gujarat as the location for the plant.

A team from the company had met Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa in Chennai on Wednesday, and discussed the possibility of setting up of their car manufacturing plant. After the meeting, the Tamil Nadu government issued a statement saying the company has identified land at Sriperambudur for setting up its plant.

The statement also said that the Tamil Nadu CM thanked Peugeot executives for selecting TN for the project and assured them of all government support.
