Gurgaon police on Monday re-launched the pink auto service specifically meant for women from HUDA City Centre metro station. All these pink autos launched in first phase are installed with panic button along with the light and sound button.Couples will also be allowed to avail the services. The pink auto service was initially launched in January 2013 post December 16 rape incident but it later got shut down due to low rider-ship and lack of safety features.

The service will be started at two other metro stations soon. Women in the city have praised this initiative and commitment of Gurgaon police for the cause of women security. Auto drivers, however, have some reservations and they believe that these pink autos wouldn’t let them earn enough money as they are exclusively for women.

Gurgaon Police is also mulling the possibilities of other women security measures in the city and a woman constable in metro coach reserved for women could be one of the many initiatives to be taken in the coming days. The pink auto service will be made available at Galleria Market, Sadar Bazaar and Cyber City also in the next phase. The traffic department is also planning to set up separate pink prepaid auto booths having an attached toilet facility as well in the near future.
